Dr Pepper is recognized as the oldest significant soft drink in the United States. Its origins trace back to 1885 when it was created at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas. Wade Morrison, the owner of the store, crafted a beverage that quickly gained popularity due to its distinctive taste. He named it “Dr. Pepper” after Dr. Charles Pepper, a physician from Virginia, who was the father of a woman Morrison had once been romantically interested in. In the 1950s, the period after “Dr” was removed from the name.
Dr Pepper was introduced to a wider audience during the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, where it became an immediate sensation. Other notable products presented at the event included the ice cream cone, hot dog rolls, and hamburger buns.
Following its successful debut, Dr Pepper grew into one of the most beloved beverages in the United States, becoming a major fixture in American refreshment culture.
Today, Dr Pepper continues to be one of the most popular soft drinks around the globe. The brand has stayed true to its roots, maintaining its original flavor while also showcasing its support for diversity by sponsoring multicultural initiatives.
In 2008, the Dr Pepper Snapple Group was formed as a result of the spin-off from Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, parting ways from its parent company Cadbury Schweppes plc. This new entity became one of North America’s top beverage companies, managing the production, bottling, and distribution of over 50 beverage brands, including soft drinks, teas, juices, mixers, and waters.
